Pleasantville EffectThis is a featured page

Let’s create a Pleasantville effect where we colorize one element and everything else is black and white. . In these examples we are going to be using Final Cut Express but other advanced editors, while not identical will have the same sorts of functionality.

Blue Shirt Here I picked a blue shirt and a red tie. I wanted the tie to be the highlighted color. I could have cheated and worn a black shirt but I want to how much of the blue could be removed.

In the browser window click on the effects tab and look for the menu item Color Correction then open and look for Color Corrector. Drag this to the timeline where your video track is and drop it on the video track. Now go to the Viewer window and click on the Filters tab and open the Video Filters menu and the open the Color Corrector. Adjust the Saturation value down and then click at the bottom the Invert button.

Blue Shirt color corrected
Now go back up to the tab menu and choose the Color Corrector tab. Here you will see two color wheels. You need to adjust the Hue wheel so that it matches the color of the tie

Black shirt color corrected
As a final part of this test we are going to change the blue shirt for a black shirt with the same tie. The goal is to get a more vibrate color. When you are thinking about creating this effect, remember that skin tone is a pinky red and will affect your ability to remove all unwanted colors.
